Where I’ve Been
This page shows my travels. Each page will include a map of the routes I have taken and pictures along these routes. This will give you an idea of what to see and where to go based on some of my experiences. I’ll be listing all the places I’ve stayed with a review of each, and some of the places I’ve eaten.
Clicking on a country on the Map of Countries Visited once will enlarge it, clicking on the country twice will take you to its page on this website. Or you can click on the country buttons shown above the map.
The Travel Map at the bottom of the page is a full world map showing the routes and the attached pictures. Each page has it’s own individual Travel Map, this page shows the combined routes and pictures for all places visited. In some cases, a route is not shown if it wasn’t practical or done in a way that the route could be shown. Only points on the map that I visited will show up with a star, but the pictures will be attached.
Czech Republic
My visit to the Czech Republic was to attend a TBEX conference in Otrava. I flew into Prague for a few days before taking a train across country to Ostrava. A day trip to Štramberk and Nový Jičín via a TBEX pre-bex tour. Prague is amazing!!
Germany
So far I’ve made 3 trips to Germany. In 2011 though Fox Valley Technical College, my mom joined. In 2012 I met my son there and we attended Oktoberfest. And then again in 2020 for conferences that all got cancelled due to COVID-19.
Hungary
I traveled to Hungary as my first and last stop in 2018. I spent 3 weeks staying with couchsurfers and made some incredible friends. This was my first real solo travel experience and had it not been for the couchsuring hosts, it could have been a scary experience for me.
Italy
Italy was to be a 7 week trip, however it turned into 2 nights instead. This is where I was when the lockdowns began in Europe due to COVID-19. I was so excited as Italy is where I may actually want to land permananently some day. My short visit included Catania and Militello. This was a TBEX event location, which was cancelled has yet to be rescheduled.
Morocco
Ah, Morocco, one of those exotic places I thought I would never see. First Tangier, then Chefchaouan and finally Marakkech. Yes, I took the train to Marakkech. My arrival in Tangier was by ferry across the Strait of Gibralter. So incredible!!
Netherlands
I have been to the Netherlands several times. The first was in 2011, with my son after Oktoberfest, about 10 days. The second was to Rotterdam for a Traverse conference, with a stop in Apeldorn to visit friends. And the third was where I ended up after getting out of Italy after lockdown, and was in Amsterdam for about a week. Took a day trip to Zaandijk.
Peru
Visited Peru June of 2010 through my Spanish class at Fox Valley Technical College. Celebrated my 53rd birthday in Lima. Most of the trip was in Cusco, and a day trip to Machu Picchu was included. The scenery and moutains just took my breath away. I’d never seen anything like it.
Portugal
Portugal was a stopover flight from Chicago to Madrid. Through TAP Air Portugal, you can stopover rather that layover. They offer up to 5 days in either Lisbon or Porto. I spent 3 days exploring Lisbon, Cascais and Belém. It was not enough time.
Scotland
Scotland was a long stay, about 7 weeks in Glasgow. A few side trips; Isle of Skye road trip, Isle of May to see the Puffins which included St. Andrews, Edinburgh, Oban, Sterling. And Luss to participate in my ancesters’ Clan Colquhoun highland games.
Spain
My visit to Spain was during my 2020 trip to Europe to attend several conferences. Here I stayed in Madrid, took a day trip to Toledo. Then bussed down to Seville for a few days, a final bus trip that took me to the southern most point in Spain, Tarifa. This is where you can catch the ferry across the Strait of Gibralter to Morocco.
Switzerland
My son and I took a train through the Swiss Alps in 2012 when I flew to Amsterdam to meet him after his trek on the Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage. From Munich after Oktoberfest to Geneva, where we flew back to Amsterdam. The mountains were beautiful, however I didn’t do so well with my pictures.
Caribbean Cruise
Back in, I’m not sure what year, I went on a Caribbean Cruise. Left Ft. Lauderdale, first stop was Jamaica, then on to Grand Cayman, Cozumel and finally, Key West. My dream vacation had always been a cruise, this was Celebrity Curises, and I enjoyed it very much. For several years, I considered working on a cruise ship, but decided against it.

Travel Map
This is my TravelMap. This map allows me to follow the actual path I walked on my trips. There are photos attached and some commentary to each location.
Each individual country and city page will have a map of that particular destination and will let you see just where I was and what I saw there. This map shows all travels.
If you click on a destination on the map, it will zoom in. On the right, an arrow will appear, clicking on this will take you to that destination’s map where you can see the route and attached photos. Once you have gone into a location on this map, you must hit the back arrow at the top of your screen to go back to the full map.
